(I’m trying to keep the story short)
Three weeks ago my special needs sister left her high school with a big tear in her shirt on her chest. Her teacher did not notify anyone about it and it wasn’t until my sister was picked up that my family found out that something happened. My sister was walking around school holding her shirt together so she wouldn’t be exposed. When we found out, my mom messaged the teacher and they were making excuses and didn’t really clarify anything. My sister has had issues in the past regarding her classmates and teachers throughout her school years. The teachers + aids also have a history of contradicting their stories when confronted about said problems and such so we really don’t have any kind of genuine understanding as to what really happens.
My sister also comes home saying that a classmate troubles her and when my mom would ask the teacher what the deal with that was they would say that there was no such thing going on. Just today my mom received a message from the teacher saying that my sister was around the classmate that troubles her and to have a talk with her about staying away from people that she doesn’t get along with. This left my family confused because the teacher would tell my mom there weren’t any issues going on with my sister but yet they literally admitted to my sister being around said classmate that disturbs her.
I’m stuck on what to do. I want to take legal action if it’s possible but I don’t know how to find a lawyer for this. The cost of the lawyer also scares me because we don’t have funds for it. I’ve thought about taking this to the news but I’m unsure. I’ve also emailed the district about the shirt incident and followed up my email but never got a response back. I didn’t want to email the high school because I know exactly how disingenuous and unhelpful the staff to that school is, especially the administration.
FYI: I’m the only one who is stuck on this issue and actually wants to shed light on how bad the special education system is. My mom doesn’t think suing is necessary because she believes any lawsuit against a school/district gets dropped and nothing comes of it.
Any advice is appreciated.
