Motherhood mapped through the Trent Reznor universe

Not NIN specifically. Trent is the thread. NIN, HTDA, TR&AR, Sound City, Halsey. From my perspective as the mom, not the kid.

  1. Closer (Boys Noize Version) — Conception 😅
  2. The Frail — Positive test
  3. Copy of A — What kind of mother do I want to be
  4. I Would For You — I would become anything for this
  5. A Warm Place — Birth
  6. Eraser — The warmth fades
  7. A Drowning — New mom desperation
  8. All the Love in the World — Toddler years
  9. Every Day Is Exactly the Same — Late elementary
  10. Right Where It Belongs — Is this the life I built
  11. Into the Void — Middle school
  12. I Am Not a Woman I’m a God — I will not disappear in my life outside motherhood
  13. The Fragile — Holding them together while they (we) break
  14. We’re In This Together — High school (early)
  15. While I’m Still Here — The urgency hits
  16. Non-Entity — I know my significance as it was is fading
  17. A Minute to Breathe — I don’t want to say goodbye
  18. La Mer — They leave
  19. Too Late All Gone — Mother magic, too late all gone
  20. Mantra — Graduation to adulthood
  21. The Great Below — Vast surrender to the inevitable
  22. Only (El-P Remix) — Who am I now
  23. Beside You In Time — The bond never dies
  24. In This Twilight — What comes next

Happy Mother’s Day

Being a mother pretty much encapsulates the notion of feeling. Raising my daughters is my best accomplishment, hands down.

I love Nine Inch Nails because it makes me feel and it is clearly music made to evoke emotions. I treated myself to the interview between Trent and Rubin (thanks to a recommendation earlier) and listening to that makes the current NIN renaissance so much more satisfying.

When I hear “A Warm Place” I think of my girls.

And maybe also my husband that bought me this, although “I would for you” is probably more accurate for him.

I am in my 40s and am embarrassed to say I just really found Massive Attack. Immediately in my top bands. I cannot understand how I did not figure this out sooner.
