I usually keep reddit open during games and surf between the teams subs and ipl/cricket/shitpost. Any game because it genuinely feels like watching with a massive, chaotic crowd. You get reactions, banter, analysis, overreactions… the whole package.
But today was something else.
When DC were 8 for 6, I expected the conversation to be about the bowling masterclass, the collapse, the tactics—something cricketing. Instead, every single thread across subreddits turned into one thing:
“PLEASE DC Reach 50.”
I swear I saw flairs from all the other 9 different teams, all united in panic. People weren’t even hiding it. Match discussion threads. Memes. Live reactions. Even Twitter started trending it like crazy ironically, in a game where RCB wasn’t even the one collapsing.
At first, I’ll admit, it was a bit annoying. Felt like the actual cricket and bowling brilliance got completely sidelined. RCB subreddit also was flooded with this but that comes from a place where some well intentioned rcb fans who want to get that monkey off the back.
But then I came across one comment from a fan of a very specific loud franchise saying something like: “If this record breaks, we’ll have nothing left to troll them with. Last year lollipop also gone, now this?”
And I’m not gonna lie - that flipped the whole thing for me.
It was hilarious!!! It bought back memories from last years finals when the 9 other teams were rooting for pbks just so that they can continue trolling rcb 🤣
Because in that moment, it hit me: there are entire sections of other fanbases who would rather h8 on RCB than support their own team that desperately needs it. That record from a decade ago is still doing more work than most rivalries today. Instead Honest advice for all you lurkers: go stand behind your captain, team, management, show the support in the stadium by filling it. Dont be reactionary and abuse your team based on 1-2 games.
And honestly? I love it.
If the record never gets broken, I’m perfectly fine with it. It’s a relic from 10 years ago. Since then, the team has only moved forward. One of the most successful sides of this decade, constantly in the mix.
If your trophy cabinet needs our lowest score to stay relevant, then be it. Use it. Parade with it.
