Personal Character Hate Tier List

Little late to the trend, but it's still going strong on Twitter!

Rankings are roughly ordered, but the top two rows are interchangeable for me.

I think Fleet is the best designed character with a very reasonable advantage and disadvantage state, but Nair is a crazy move. I think Wrastor is the worst designed character. Despite all his changes, he is still incentivized to do very little but dash dance or platform camp for a slipstream opening and then try to zero to death you when he turns into a super character.

To address the elephants (that aren't Lox) in the room:

  • Clairen: I don't think she's the best in the game. But I think she has the most frustrating moves to play against and wildly belligerent hitboxes. Nair and Utilt are wild anti-airs and cover far too much space for the risk. Why do so many of her moves and her recovery hit behind her?
  • Zetterburn: Why so low? I main him, so I understand his gameplan far more than others. Coming from Melee/P+, he's much easier to deal with than Fox at a top level and he's got an extremely linear gameplan that theoretically should be easy to stuff out. He's gonna do three things: Fair, dash attack, or fireball. Unfortunately that linearity doesn't matter when he's got gigantic, safe hitboxes on fair and dair and a surprisingly good recovery.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game. It's super fun. Every character is extremely fun to play and the peak of platform fighter enjoyment for me. But every character is also frustrating to play against in some way, some more than others.

The game needs to add additional risk to many things (like endlag and recoveries) so that I can feel rewarded when I pull off something cool, and I can feel good knowing my opponent outplayed me when they risked something to hit me.

tl;dr: every character fun to play as. every character annoying to play against. add more risk.
