[MI] Need advice on a tricky situation

Morning All,

I need some advice on a messy situation. I’ve got an employee who was SUPPOSED to be on FMLA through the end of the month. However they didn’t want to not have income for that long and lack the PTO/sick to cover the time. So they managed to convince their doctor to change their restriction from “nothing but light work, supervising employees, no lifting until the end of the month” to “no restrictions” as of a couple days ago. We absolutely do not have light work they are in any way trained to do without taking hours from other employees.

The problem is they want to be working full time and their manager doesn’t want to schedule them full time because the manager tried to do that since “no restrictions” and the employee absolutely cannot work at full capacity. Damn near put themselves back in the hospital.

So now the manager wants to keep their hours light, understandably. And the employee wants to work full time to have income, also understandably.

And I’m left with zero good options because neither of them are strictly in the wrong, in my opinion.

How would you respond? Industry is hospitality
