Cat converter
I love my 2012 EXL pilot. I love the body style, her 4’ wheel well clearance, and dependability. Have had no major issues. Shes got 142k miles. I do 95% city driving short stops all day. I’m a contractor and run my kids around.
Over the last year or so lots of cosmetic things started happening. Plastic pins are breaking and little pieces are flapping. Headlights are yellowed and foggy (I used a ceramic kit and it cleaned them up for about 9 months). Driver seat leather cracking. Tail lights a little busted and foggy with water. Paint peeling across the front and back high sun exposure areas. Tailgate seal peeling apart.
Got a check engine light for the catalytic converter about 6 months ago. Been working with my mechanic using “high strength cleaner” trying to flush it clear. We are supposed to be getting more and more miles between each clean…. It’s going the other direction and I only got 4 days between lights this time.
I’m hoping for some insight from someone who’s been in a similar boat. Is it worth the few thousand dollars to replace the converter? I know no one can tell me how much longer she’s got, I was just hoping to ride it out a few more years before she really starts to fall apart.
