So a few months ago I was at the gem and mineral show in the UK and bought some yowah nuts from the peeps from Opal hunters down under.
I got 9 in total and have been opening slowly. The other day I was flatting one out because it had been cut open with a Dremel cutting wheel and was uneven.
After getting the surface of one flat I noticed glassy and white flecks.
ID QUESTION ❓
Could the glassy and white be opalised water/silica? Photos attached.
I know it's not commercially worth anything, but Im more interested in the sentimental value. Knowing of course how rare it is find any kind of opal even potch in a Yowah nut.
ADVICE NEEDED 🧐
So at this point the nut is just being split in half. But I'm wondering if it's worth cutting along the other side of it to make a thin slab. And I wanted to get advice on whether this is likely to yield a bit more of the opal that can be seen or if I'm just going to end up messing up a nice specimen.
What would you guys do?
I'll attach the other photos in the comments
