Aboriginal heritage
Kia ora I'm a 21 year old male looking for some help, long story short, I've grown up most of my life thinking I was full maori and only maori ( which is funny considering my 1 of my grandparents are full white lol )anyways I was raised as just maori, later on in life I found out my grandfather was actually Whāngai(which basically means maori adoption) idk how or why but he was given away to a maori family who raised him but his blood family is aboriginal who I've actually met for the first time with him when I was 10 ish or so, so I found out he's aboriginal, which should make me aboriginal, I want to learn more about my aboriginal heritage but my grandfather lost contact with his real siblings and I don't really talk to him at all due to personal reasons, anyways when I moved to Australia I tried to claim I was aboriginal to friends, teachers etc but was shut down immediately and told I'm from nz so I'm not aboriginal and stuff like that, my mother brought me up to be proud of who I am and to be proud of all the cultures I'm apart of, so with all that out of the way I wanted to get some moko(maori tattoos) done on me but incorporate aboriginal elements, I was told I shouldn't do that until I find what aboriginal tribe or clan(I don't know what the lady said but something along those lines) I come from since they have different patterns or some stuff like that, like I have no clue how to find my aboriginal clan just because of how complicated my situation is with my grandfather losing contact with them and me and my grandfather not talking, I just want to rep my aboriginal culture proudly and make it part of my tattoo, could I join a random aboriginal community or is that weirdo behaviour? Please any input would help, any advice
