I recently got off the Purdue waitlist but I already put in my deposit. While I loved Boston, my parents really wanted me to consider Purdue because of the stronger engineering program and the much cheaper cost to attend. If I want to withdraw my enrollment, is there a section or form to do so in the student portal or do I just email the admissions office letting them know? Thanks!

Hi, I recently was accepted to Purdue West Lafayette Campus for FYE off the waitlist. I know Purdue is a great school for engineering and a cheap one at that, but I haven't thoroughly researched it. I know Purdue is a great and relatively affordable school for engineering, but I haven’t had the chance to thoroughly research it. I’m hoping to hear from current Purdue students about their personal experiences so I can be better prepared.
For some context: I'm male OOS from California, accepted FYE planning to major in IE. I haven’t visited campus before, and I don’t know any current students. Purdue wasn’t originally at the top of my list, but admissions haven’t gone the way I hoped. I also haven’t submitted my enrollment deposit yet, since I had already committed to another school. I realize it wasn’t the best decision not to research earlier, so I appreciate your patience with my questions.
Coming from Cali, I’m used to sunny weather and I’m not a big fan of cold, rain, or wind. I have a few winter clothes (like a puffer jacket), but should I be preparing more? I know it snows, so will regular sneakers be enough, or do I need boots?
Regarding housing, I saw that the application is due May 5th, but I haven’t accessed the portal yet. I’m hoping for a double, but I don’t know which residence halls are best. How should I rank them? Also, if I don’t find a roommate by the deadline, will I be assigned one randomly?
One thing I’ve heard about Purdue is that the location isn’t great, with limited things to do and not the best food options. I enjoy basketball and rock climbing, so I definitely plan to attend games and use the rec center. I’m also interested in clubs, especially Formula SAE. Are there any other academic or non-academic activities you’d recommend? I’m also a somewhat picky eater, so I’m curious about the variety of food options on campus or nearby.
Finally, regarding academics and student life: is there anything I should know? For example, how difficult are the classes, and is there grade deflation? Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.
