Very straight forward theory that just clicked for me and maybe im far behind thinking of this possibility but figured I’d share in hopes someone could add to it

Clearly those books are important, I believe someone that escaped the town at some point figured the best way to potentially save everyone in the town was to write a children’s book that answered all the questions (can’t just write about the town directly) as they probably could not find there way back in themselves.

After writing it the author hoped a child that eventually entered the town would be in possession of it.
