Trying to not embarrass myself in front of my tech instructor :)
Need help with weighting moving to a set of doubles. Here are the stats thus far: With a single HP100 (-7lb full buoyancy ) SS backplate (6lbs,) dry suit, in salt water, I need 12lbs of weight to be perfectly balanced (2 x 3 lbs in waist ditch-able pockets, and 2 x 3lbs in trim weights on my tank.) I'm assuming also 2lbs for the regs, valve, bailout bottle, lights other non-buoyant items. So a total of ~27lbs negative (7tank+6plate+12trim+2others) to sink in salt water.
With that in mind, if I double the tanks, do I need no additional weight? -7lbs x 2 for tank weight = -14lb buoyancy Regs/Manifold/bands = 4lbs Backplate = 6lbs Trim/tail weight = ~3lbs (haven’t tested this yet in water) This is also ~27lbs negative
So my questions are:
Is it ok that I have no ditch-able weight? Seems like a risk, but have the drysuit as redundant buoyancy.
Should I switch to an AL plate, which should give me some more wiggle room to move around weight into the waist or tail weight? Could always add a v-weight later I guess.
If I breath these tanks down to 500 psi, doesn't my tank buoyancy swing from -14lbs to around -2lbs, so I need to carry that 12lb to account for that difference stay down at my final stop?
I'm confusing myself now, and some many prior threads don't really address this tri-part question. Thanks.
