What’s the experience like pre-ordering Sony cameras?

The a7RVI is the first Sony I’m gonna try to get at launch. How does it usually work? Do pre-orders go live immediately after the announcement, or do they announce a release date first and open pre-orders later?

Should I plan on setting 3:30am alarm on Wednesday since I’m in Hawaii?
