I’m currently in the process of being made redundant (England). The company I’m employed with didn’t get the contract renewed and my team will be TUPEd over to the company that got the contract.

I’ve been at the current company for less than 2 years so I do understand I’m not entitled to redundancy pay and it would solely be PILON + any accrued annual leave. The new company offered us positions within their company, but unfortunately it would require moving across the country for no pay increase. I’ve been told to apply for roles within the new company and the old one. My only issue with the redundancy is that the only role I’ve been offered is one that isn’t suitable, and as I’m on maternity leave currently I don’t want to begin looking for new roles in other companies when I won’t be able to start until my maternity leave ends.

The new company has assured me that this is the correct process and that I won’t be discriminated against due to being on maternity leave, but I can’t imagine any other company would feel the same way. As the company hasn’t been able to offer an alternative and/or suitable role, is this really the correct process?
