After the response and acceptance from the community on v2 I’m in time to announce version 3 of the car evaluator tool. While the last released version improved the algorithm by focusing on the improvement of metrics, in this release there’s been 3 MAJOR changes after user feedback.

1. We are closer to selling price than listing prices now. The prices now reflect more on the actual worth of your car than listing price ✅

2. Cars with sparse data (where model use to struggle before) has been intelligently handled now. When the confidence in the estimation of the model falls below a certain threshold a new model capable to handle sparse data has been fired. ✅

3. The update now involves a confidence tab as you can see in the screenshot. A high confidence is denoted by green, medium with amber and low with red. Any estimate as long is amber and not red is a healthy estimate. An estimate with low confidence does not always mean it’s fully wrong, it only means that you have to take the estimation with a pinch of salt ✅

These changes have helped the car evaluator algorithm peak by v3 leaving barely any space for improvement algorithmically just like what happened with the number plates algorithm. 🎯

What’s next from RaqamQatar?
Raqam continues to solve problems that exist in the Qatar car community to help people take an informed decision when it comes to anything car. We continue to build a community based on trust that will contribute to the foundation of what to expect from Raqam in the future. Everything that has been done so far including continuously improving the prediction algorithm has been to keep this trust in the community. The next releases will focus on the below to extend this:

1. A deprecation index to help you find how and when certain model depreciates in Qatar (not another calculator that runs on a formula, this will be model specific index that tracks the price behavior of the car during the span of its ownership)

2. A reliability index that tracks the reliability of a car in Qatar. Same like 1^.

3. A tool to find the ‘sweet spot’ for ownership especially for less reliable and/or high depreciation cars like BMW: buy after the initial price drop, but sell before it runs into too many reliability issues. This tool will be extended to different models within the same make.

Had people giving critical feedback on the model estimating prices to be higher than expected for cars that are <100k QAR in value and lower than estimated for >500k QAR cars. I have fixed all outstanding issues and this model has improved so much from the last update.

The metrics FYI:
🎯The total coverage has gone from 86% to 94%
🎯MAPE is just at 11.1%
🎯RMSE down to -29%
🎯MAE down to -20.6%
Dw about the convention, these just mean the error has dropped by a lot and the accuracy has improved.

New Features:
✅Compare between two cars. Good to have when you wanna do comparison between like trims/ like models/ like mileages.
✅Compare between 2 plates.

P.S: We have reached the maximum metrics we could with the number plates algorithm so much that against each number now we have about 50 EXACT parameters tracking different patterns. Do compare and check with actual listings everywhere.

This tool has been trained over 100000 rows of actual sales data from Qatar. Exceptions and outliers are mentioned in the disclaimers.
