Visa requiring IMG
First post on here. I just need to vent. I am from Ecuador and started the USMLE journey in 2019. I was ECFMG certified by 2022. I didn’t apply to the match till 2023 though …and failed. I tried again in 2024 with Step 3 passed but didn’t make it again. I passed all the tests on first attempt and got 236, 234 scores in Step 1 and 2. Lastly I got 226 in Step 3. My journey got complicated as my mom and an aunt got cancer on the same year which made it harder for me to focus and study. Then, my tourist visa expired and the Covid 19 pandemic started. I was unable to find US Clincial experience. Later, I found some observerships, very expensive and felt that preceptors did not care about me being there. On my second year trying, I found better observerships but I still feel my application was not strong enough. My LORs did not get on time with my application, despite being very insistent on getting them, calling, and sending messages to the writers. After all my effort and failure, I felt devastated. I have not had money to apply again and right now I am applying to work as a doctor in Chile as they have better opportunities than here, in Ecuador. I have already passed the tests in Chile but the migratory process is taking too long. Sometimes I wonder if could have done something better. I still imagine myself applying again in the future. #failure #match #img
