The saddest "forgotten bookmark" is the one you left there because you forgot the plot.
We’ve all found them—an old bus ticket, a pressed flower, or a receipt tucked into Chapter 12 of a book we haven't touched in three years. Usually, it’s a sign of a life that got too busy for the story.
I used to hate finding those bookmarks because it reminded me that if I opened the book again, I’d be totally lost. I’d have no idea who the characters were or why they were in that specific room.
I spent the last year building an iOS app called BookCompanion specifically for this "forgotten bookmark" feeling.
It’s designed to be a digital companion for your physical books:
• Pick up where you left off: You tell the app you’re at Chapter 12, and it gives you a spoiler-free recap of Chapters 1–11. It’s like a "Previously On..." for your novel.
• Chat with the characters: If you find a bookmark and think, "Wait, why is this character mad at the protagonist?" you can actually ask the character directly.
It’s free to try (includes 5 recaps/chats). If you're currently staring at a book you abandoned halfway through, I’d love for you to try it and see if it helps you finish the journey.
