I currently shoot on an (ancient) T2i. I would eventually like to get a newer camera body, but I have no idea what the current lineup looks like now. Are the lower numbers (R, R3) better than the R6 and R8?

Also, how does some of the workhorse DSLRs like the 5D and 6D compare to the mirrorless cameras? I currently shoot mainly on a 24-70 and a 75-300. I have a nifty fifty that i seldom use also; I forgot about the crop sensor magnification when I bought it.
