not affiliated with them, I just think this is super cool. it took like 6 weeks to get them but it was worth it

ETA because I got a couple DMs about it: the stuff is on https://www4.irm.org/irmsigns/ but you have to fill out a paper form, the online cart is broken

How do you handle your friends’ and family members’ weddings when you’re inevitably asked to play?

I’m not a professional musician, but I have a conservatory background and I do music as a hobby in adult life. I’ve recently taken note of the fact that for 4 out of the last 5 weddings I’ve attended, I’ve been asked to play something. For some, it’s been easier because it was close by and a couple songs, but for some it’s involved flying my violin across the US and/or playing a lot more (with one extending a little bit into the reception). I wasn’t paid for any of these, more just told that it could be my wedding present to them.

I didn’t mind at first, but I’m getting frustrated with not being able to just enjoy my friends’ special moments, and having it always be a responsibility for me. I’m currently attempting to prepare a special arrangement of an obscure love song for my cousin’s wedding in June despite a work schedule that’s killing me with hours and commitments right now. I kind of feel like I need to put a moratorium on playing free at weddings, but the people-pleaser in me is finding that difficult.

Am I being a curmudgeon? How do you handle things when your friends or family ask you to play at their weddings?

EDIT: food has been claimed

DM for address, first come, first served. Nothing is expired but most expires within the month. All unopened. If post is still up, food is still here

I learned at my neighborhood council meeting that Chicago is apparently capturing the license plate numbers of cars illegally parked during street sweeping hours via cameras on sweeping vehicles and ticketing by mail. I tried to find info online but couldn’t. Does anyone have a source for this info?
