FRESH POLLING: HOT DOG — An AI-safety advocacy group recently commissioned an internal poll that suggests Scott Wiener is the strong front-runner to succeed Nancy Pelosi in the race for San Francisco’s open House seat. The poll by GQR Research found Wiener, a prominent state senator, has the support of 44 percent of likely primary voters, followed by former tech engineer Saikat Chakrabarti at 26 percent and Supervisor Connie Chan at 11 percent.

The poll was paid for by Public First Action, an AI nonprofit heavily funded by the firm Anthropic, and included 500 likely voters surveyed in English and Cantonese this month. Public First and Anthrophic are closely aligned with a super PAC that’s spending at least $500,000 to support Wiener.

Wiener’s lead in the poll comes after he recently launched a seven-figure TV ad buy, a boost after Chakrabarti had earlier dominated the airwaves. Chakrabarti, who’s poured nearly $5 million into his own campaign, has also recently been hit with a series of attack mailers from Abundant Future, a separate pro-Wiener super PAC funded by tech CEOs and Smart Justice, a progressive advocacy group.
