The only players still active in the 'Top 10' are Messi and Mbappé.

Kane isn't in the official table yet, having scored 8 World Cup goals so far.

However, at:

• +2 goals (10) → our man joins the all-time list (ties Lineker & others)
• +3 goals (11) → he overtakes Lineker and becomes England’s all-time World Cup top scorer!
• +4 goals (12) → he ties Pelé / Mbappé, becoming joint 6th all-time
• +5 goals (13) → he ties Messi / Fontaine, becoming joint 4th
• +6 goals (14) → he ties Gerd Müller, now at joint 3rd (i.e. repeat of Kane's 2018 WC output)
• +7 goals (15) → he ties Ronaldo (R9)
• +8 goals (16) → he ties Klose
• +9 goals (17) → Kane becomes the all-time record holder!

Realistically, Kane is unlikely to break the all-time record.

Scoring nine goals in a single tournament is an enormous ask, and with Lionel Messi only three goals away and Kylian Mbappé four away from Miroslav Klose’s record, the bar could effectively move even higher.

That said, Kane has already scored six in a single World Cup (2018), and with a strong tournament it’s very likely he surpasses Gary Lineker’s England record and firmly establishes himself among the all-time great World Cup goalscorers!
