Sleep Training Advice
So our baby is 5 months old and only slept in his bassinet for like a month and then went through some hard times with colic and he was always crying, it was awful. So because of that he has been sleeping on our chest only since then. I have to sleep at night with him in my chest because that is the only way I will get any sleep. He is starting to get way too heavy and my back is about to give out. I don’t want to actually co sleep in the bed, I’ve tried and it gives me too much anxiety. He is attached to us like crazy. He will be put down to play some but other than that doesn’t want to be put down for very long so me and my husband can’t eat dinner together, can’t really ever hang out , or anything.
His routine right now is he plays for about an hour to an hour and a half, eats then goes to sleep. It’s not always like that because he’s teething bad so he fights his sleep like crazy and has to be rocked and put to sleep. Like today he’s fought me so bad he hasn’t slept in a long time. He goes to sleep usually around 7-8 pm and is pretty good about staying asleep until 5:30 am or wakes around 3 am eats and then goes back to bed until 5:30 am ish but only if he’s on someone’s chest.
So I’ve been looking into the Ferber method and I had some questions. If there is a blog or anything explaining all the answers then I would love it!
I see the schedule you follow for Ferber but what if my baby ALWAYS falls asleep on the bottle at night. And then he almost always flips to his stomach when playing or mad but doesn’t flip back to his back very often at all.
So because of all this my questions are:
When he falls asleep on the bottle do I just wake him up and play with him or something before putting him in the crib? I know I need a routine for him but I assume he’s gonna get mad and overtired that I woke him.
When I go in for the check ins and since I’m not supposed to pick him up, do I flip him back on his back or just let him fall asleep on his belly but I know he’s gonna get mad that he’s on his belly for too long but I know he’s gonna always flip back.
Do I still let him take any amount of naps? Is there a schedule for that?
Do I still pick him up and feed him around 3 am since that’s when he usually wakes for his one feeding at night if he’s crying ?
Any help is appreciated as I’m desperate 😭
