I am in a shared house, but one of the tenants changed so we signed a new lease. We didn't pay rent in April because the deposit from last year covered it. However, I understand I am technically entitled to interest on that deposit. Am I allowed to deduct the interest from May's rent? Or do I have to send the landlord an invoice and have him pay me? What is the interest rate, given that the increase was 2.5% for May-December and 2.1% for January-April?

Still deciding if its worth pursuing. Generally our landlord is nice but not trying to annoy him over like $15ish. But $15 is $15.

I submitted a ReFile for my parents, having put some employment income into "other income" (line 13000) instead of on line 10400. I submitted the ReFile and this affected their balance owing (mom got less refund and step-dad had less owing).

The WS Tax amount owing differs slightly from what it says in the CRA account. The CRA website shows an interest charge for May 6th, 2026, which I assume we ignore, since we'll be paying on time. But even subtracting that from the balance on the CRA site, the amount on the CRA website is still higher by 23 cents, oddly. Should he pay the one in WS or the one on the CRA website?
