Fan theory rant
Hello! The only person around me that I can rant about this to, who understands it, is my sister and frankly I’m pretty certain my husband is tired of hearing it.
These fan theories that are littering my fyp are driving me crazy. I can’t interact with normal book and ACOTAR content without these videos spawning from the pits of hell. I know it’s fun for the fans to make theories but these theories don’t even make sense! I just saw one on instagram saying the king of Hybern is the king of Adarlan are the same person because the king of Adarlan stirred a cauldron. After re-reading the passage multiple times just to make sure, it’s a metaphor. The theorist then says the king of Adarlan is a world-walker and is the same person in a different timeline. It doesn’t even make sense! First off, SJM has confirmed that the stories are happening at the same time. Secondly, HOW CAN HE DIE TWICE. Like saying “oh he’s valg” isn’t a good enough excuse. King of Hybern has zero mentions of having black blood and the kings descriptions are completely different. Hybern is HIGH FAE.
I could go on but this post isn’t about this one dumb theory, it’s about all of them. It seems that the fans making theories are really just trying to grasp at straws to seem insightful and like they have a revolutionary ideas. Rhys is valg or a witch, Mauve is Rhy’s mom, Mor is an iron teeth witch, Elaine is Evil, Nesta and Cassian are true mates, ect. The theories literally don’t make sense. The worst part is when someone tries to explain why the theory doesn’t really add up, they double down and act the commenters are total idiots. “They just don’t see the point/they can’t connect the dots”, when truly the dots are just glaring holes in their theories.
For me there seems to be a need to make things so grandiose and wild that their reading comprehension skills hit the back burner real hard. I think a combination between this and the inability to have conversations in their own comments really irks me. I’m really not trying to yuck anyone’s yum to make theories but please stop butchering these stories. Write a fanfic to make your wildest dreams come true in these stories.
Anywho, if you disagree with me I completely understand. Some people love these wild theories, but this isn’t about those some people’s. This is my opinion. We can have different opinions about weird outlandish theories. If you’d like to talk about your weird outlandish theories, I will politely debate you in the comments if we can both be friendly about it.
