What is this?

Last time, I (poorly) explained that using hand size 12 and 7 for the upstream and downstream inserters respectively lets us fill one lane of a blue belt with only two inserters, but for some reason, this only works when the inserters are placing items within the same transport line segment.

Which was a pretty annoying limitation because inserters cut the transport line 3 meters downstream from their insertion point, which really restricts any designs that try to use the "12 and 7" trick.

Afterwards, I discovered that hand size 11 and 7 also works, and doesn't have this limitation! Actually I already put this to use in a different post, but now I'm properly announcing the "11 and 7" discovery. Or rediscovery... Somebody's probably going to post their 6-year-old blueprint to show they already knew about it 😬

On to the designs:

The idea behind designs B-D is just to have a small, cheap way to move deconstructed items back onto a bus/belt without much regard for throughput.

Designs E-I are improvements upon the last post using "11 and 7" instead of "12 and 7".

Designs J-M are no longer a single chest, but fulfill the goal of moving deconstructed items back onto a bus/belt in a small profile and with full belt throughput. The trick is simple: We read the filtered storage chest (infinity storage chest in my screenshot) and use that signal to set the requester chest's request. As bots move items from storage to requester, the signal decreases and the connected chests end up pretty close to even. Note this approach is not lane balanced, however.

What about green belts and quality inserters?

I said 2.0, not Space Age.

But to answer the question:

Belt Inserter Hand Size
Yellow Fast 1+1+1
Yellow Bulk 12+1 or 12+12
Red Bulk 4+4 or 12+12
Blue Bulk 11+7
Green Bulk 12+10
Green (Stack Size 4) Stack (Uncommon) 16+12+16 (In that order)
Green (Stack Size 4) Stack (Epic) 16+16
Green (Stack Size 4) Stack (Legendary) 16+8 or 16+16

You're welcome 😤

2000 hours and TIL you can rotate cars... to clip them into other entities!

^(P.S.: If you don't understand this witchcraft, it's not to late to run.)

^(P.P.S.: Don't ask me for a yellow belt version because I WILL oblige, and that evil will be on your hands, not mine!)
