Recently there's been some talk amongst older Koreans about how pork in South Korea used to have a strong, pungent odor that has progressively weakened and nearly disappeared in recent times.

People seem to be pinpointing to around the turn of the century when this change in pork quality happened.

So... what was happening in the pork industry around that time? Was what was happening in South Korea specific to there or related to wider international pork industry trends?
