Do snitch and the snitchee really ever end up in the same prison, like on tv?

I was thinking about the show Orange is the New Black and remembered how the main character was in prison because her old lover snitched on her about something they did in their past, and her and the old lover both ended up in the same prison. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this trope in other film/tv before too.

It seems very unrealistic to me. I’d assume this is something they would obviously not allow to happen in real life prisons. It’s so obvious that this is something that should never happen, to the point that this feels like a dumb question. But then again I know that the prison system often does not prioritize the safety of the inmates over convenience or profit.

So, in real life, do they really sometimes put the snitch and the person they snitched on in the same prison?

ps. I’m *not talking about when they put a snitch in the same room as another inmate to get a confession. I’m talking about after both have been convicted and incarcerated (tho the snitch probably has a reduced sentence due to snitching?), and they know from the trial it was that person who snitched on them.
