Built this after 2 years working as an AT technician in Learning Support. The gap I kept seeing wasn't awareness — educators knew students needed support. The problem was the tools: expensive, fragmented, and requiring dedicated IT setup.

AssisT plugs directly into your LMS and adds TTS with word-level highlighting, STT, AI-powered text simplification, and study tools. No institutional licence. No data leaves the device. Free and open source.

Would love feedback from anyone working in EdTech or learning support.

After 2 years working as an AT technician in Learning Support at an art college, I kept running into the same problem — the tools available to students were expensive, locked behind institutional licences, or complex enough that students needed ongoing support just to use them.

AssisT is my attempt to fix that. It's a free, open-source Chrome extension that sits inside your LMS and adds:

  • Text-to-speech with synchronised word highlighting
  • Speech-to-text for writing support
  • AI-powered text simplification and reading-level adjustment
  • Study tools including summarisation and assignment breakdown

No data leaves the device. No licence required. No IT department needed. Just install and use.

Would love feedback from anyone working in accessibility or using AT tools day to day.
