Was listening to some 1971 Dead today and it got me wondering when Playin turned into a total jam vehicle. I know there are some 72 shows where they take it out for a spin (one of my early favorites being the 4/26/72 version).

But I wonder when they took it from that 5-6 minute, rocking anthem into the melty jam vehicle we all know and love.

I personally think it was once Keith came on board and really opened up the jazz influence in the band.

Anyways. I just freaking love a spacey, mind melting Playin jam.
