Fatal Frame 2 remake was a fun game to play. Yes, one can argue that the graphics in the original look better, but what else is new? That seems to be the norm now.
Anyways, I didn’t even know about the remake until it was released. I was so excited to play it. I remember playing the original game with my cousin back when it came out. I still have the original game too.
I wrote this so there's not really any spoilers for the plot, but I'll give a spoiler warning anyways.
So....SPOILER WARNING!!!
Here’s what I like about the game:
- I like the new graphics as far as the scenery. The beginning scene with Mio and Mayu in the forest is beautiful. 😍
- I love that there’s new places to explore, and there’s also new side quests.
- I like the holding hands mechanic with Mayu and it also heals Mio.
- You can sneak up on ghosts and one shot them. It’s awesome when it actually works!
- I like the different filters. Not so much for the fighting, but I like how you can take pictures and hidden areas are revealed to you.
- They kept the song at the end 😂
Stuff I’m on the fence about:
- Some people have already made the complaint that the ghosts don’t look transparent enough. I’m not sure if it bothers me. I see them and I point the camera and shoot.
- The ghosts do this one move where they ‘spirit attack’ you, and you lose all of your will power. The effect looks neat, but I don’t like all of the willpower bar being depleted, because, one, you can’t heal and two, Mio starts limping.
- They decided not to keep the Kusabi in the large room. He chases you and you have to hide from him. Then, suddenly, you can defeat him at the end of the game.
What I am annoyed with and didn’t like so much!
- The running controls are terrible! Pushing down on the left analogue stick and then pushing it to run? It doesn’t work so great!
- I hate running from the Kusabi when I’m with Mayu! You have to hold onto her hand and run. So, you push R2 for holding hands, and push on the left analogue stick and push it in a certain direction!!! My hands hurt 😡 Also, make sure Mayu hides with you. Sometimes, she doesn’t hide and she gets caught!
- What was that fight with the priests near the end of the game? Even if you know what to do, it’s almost impossible to photograph the skull guy who is hiding in the rafters.
- You have four filters and only one of them is really useful for fighting. Okay, I have to admit. I only upgraded the radiant filter because it seemed like it was the strongest.
Overall, I loved this game. I can deal with some annoyances, as long as I can still play the game and have fun. Now, I’m thinking of plugging in my ps2 and playing the original 😀
