Today in my Language Arts class, we were marking a test. I got this kid—let’s call him Timmy.

Timmy has shaky handwriting (not unreadable though), and our teacher uses a system where the closer your answer is to the correct one, you are more likely to get full marks.

The first section was multiple choice, and he didn’t get many of those right. Then came the written answers, and again, he didn’t get a lot correct.

When we finished marking, I showed him his total grade on a calculator and covered the sides so he wouldn’t be embarrassed. When he saw his score, he said, “Bro! Why you give me that?”

To be fair, English isn’t easy for him, and it’s not his first language. But later in the day, I found out he told his friend (let’s call him Bob) and Bob wasn’t happy about the grade either. Bob even said he studied with Timmy. Good for them I guess 😅

I said, “Is it my fault he got them wrong?” and Bob replied, “Yes, it is your fault.”

Later, when someone asked if I was okay (I was a bit emotional after that comment (please don't judge I cry easily)), I said "yeah I'm fine" , but explained that Timmy was mad at me for his grade. They said, “That makes NO sense.”

So teachers and students of Reddit I came to ask one question: Is it my fault?
