Howdy Lengthers! Thanks for making Friday (or whatever day Allen thought it was lmao) night hella memorable. I had to let my dog of 13 years go on Thursday and screaming at the top of my lungs and supporting some of you crazy bastards crowd suffering was incredibly cathartic. I’m still super sad over here, but you guys gave me a glimpse of joy.
My 13 year old pittie looks good on paper. Eating, drinking, decent energy, we go on three walks a day and his tail still perks up. However, over the last few months, this once small growth on his upper cleft area has dramatically increased in size. We haven't gotten much help from vets until recently, one who offered surgery and possibly even radiation (although the latter is off the table). With the risks of surgery, we have opted out of any treatment and are now biding our time until we let go.
This week he has developed what I assume is an enlarged lymph node under his jaw/neck area, and on Thursday was showing signs of Horners syndrome, which have led into the weekend. The mass on his cleft area is showing no signs of slowing, and will only be a matter of time before he can no longer eat and I know it's causing him pain.
My intention with this post is basically getting the okay to let him go, even though on paper QOL is still there. I won't be able to live with myself if I let this go on and we face a devastating emergency. I want to let him go while he is still having good days, but I am reeling with this decision. It feels too soon, but with the episode of horners syndrome and the enlarged lymph, I'd rather us say goodbye before things escalate.
I live in a Waymo test city, they’ve been here a few years now. However, I started commuting by bike last November and am always weary of one not clocking me on the road. Almost missed a light cycle today because I wanted it to go ahead of me.
