In many science fiction movies, lights are mounted inside of space suit helmets to illuminate the actor's face so you can see their expressions. It's ridiculous, as this would blind the character - they would only see their face's reflection, and couldn't see what's in front of them. The trope is called “In Space, Everyone Can See Your Face.”
I love that the Project Hail Mary team was careful to illuminate Dr. Grace’s face with environmental lighting - often with light reflected by his helmet's mounted lights - avoiding this trope. As someone who’s worked with full-face helmets underwater, this trope really bugs me, and I appreciate that this amazing fil avoids it with such great lighting design.
