Question about 2 universities in Paris
Hi everyone,
I’m currently choosing between two undergraduate offers in Paris:
- Sorbonne Université — Licence Sciences du langage
- Université Paris Cité — MIASHS linguistique
My long-term goal is probably computational linguistics / TAL / NLP, and ideally a strong master’s later (possibly PSL-level programs).
Background:
- international student
- humanities-oriented profile
- decent math level, some Python/C++ experience
- willing to work hard and handle pressure
My dilemma is basically:
- Sorbonne seems to carry stronger prestige/international recognition
- MIASHS seems much better aligned with NLP/TAL and future career prospects
I’m especially wondering:
- In France, how significant is the prestige gap between Sorbonne and Paris Cité really?
- For competitive TAL/NLP master’s programs, would MIASHS be a major advantage over a traditional linguistics degree?
- How difficult is MIASHS realistically for someone coming from a stronger humanities background?
Would really appreciate honest opinions from French students, MIASHS students, or anyone working in NLP/TAL.
Thanks!
