Our Ilonggo Senator ate death threats for breakfast. Robin Padilla needs a safe space because of a raised voice.
Back in the early 2000s, Senate debates felt like actual intellectual gladiator fights. I miss our Ilonggo Senator, the late Miriam Defensor Santiago, so much right now.
Miriam debated presidents, economists, legal sharks, and political titans without ever acting like a cry baby when the temperature in the room went up. She would walk into a hearing armed with facts, legal doctrine, and enough vocabulary to publicly execute someone’s argument in three languages. If somebody dared to raise their voice at the Iron Lady, she wouldn’t run weeping to an ethics committee with a bruised ego. She would intellectually disembowel them on the spot, drop a scathing Latin proverb, and make them cry for their mothers before lunch. Ganyan ang tunay na resbak.
Contrast that with today: Robin Padilla acting like a victim over a raised voice is peak comedy. 😭
This guy built his whole career on being an astig action star, pero the moment someone forgets to use their indoor voice, bigla siyang tiklop na parang basang papel. Filing a formal ethics complaint over a heated debate? Seryoso ba? Bonjing ampota. The Senate floor is a battleground of ideas, not a daycare center for fragile egos. You can’t campaign as a macho tough guy tapos iiyak ka the second someone matches your energy. Balat-sibuyas much?
This whole "Ma'am, he hurt my feelings" drama perfectly highlights the difference between real strength and performative toughness. Miriam had brilliance and backbone. Robin just has "action star energy"….right up until he actually faces real action.
Turns out the Senate's resident tough guy is just a cry baby in a leather jacket.
