I’m currently a senior in high school with pretty solid (but not perfect) stats. I didn’t get into any of my target schools and was only accepted to my safeties. The issue is that my safeties didn’t offer much financial aid, so attending them would put a significant strain on my family.

Because of that, I’m seriously considering alternative options. My college counselor suggested going to community college for a year and then transferring to one of the schools I originally aimed for (like Vanderbilt, Emory, Davidson, etc.). Ideally, I’d only stay for one year before transferring.

I’m curious if anyone here has gone this route. What was your experience like? I’ve heard that trying to transfer after just one year can be pretty intense since you have to complete a lot of credits in a short time while also building a strong application.

My counselor thinks I could handle it if I fully commit, but I’d really like to hear from people who’ve actually done it or seriously considered it. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.
