any tips for how to get better at math?
hi! im a grade 10 in the Pre-IB (International Baccalaureate Program) and my math average is currently a 65%. since im in pre-ib, my school basically "accelerates" our grade 10 math so that we have less new things to learn for the IB exams in grade 11. this means that we finished grade 10 math during semester 1, and im currently doing grade 11/12 level math at school. *also, for context, i have math BOTH semesters in grade 10 because of the "accelerated" math.
i used to be decent at math, like in grade 9 my average was an 89%. then grade 10 semester one, i have NO IDEA what happened, but something changed. my average went down to a 71%, and i managed to raise it to a 79 before the semester ended.
now, im in second semester, so only grade 11 and 12 math. i havent gotten above an 80% on a single test this whole semester (we've had like 6 tests so far). and then, 2 weeks ago, I failed my trig pt.3 test. 17/36 😞. i promise i try to do my homework and i study for tests at least 3 days before, but i swear the tests are so much harder than the homework. what makes it worse is that barely anyone else is struggling. like all my friends get 90s on every test so i know that the problem is ME. i dont want to label myself as "bad at math" and im really determined to get better at it, but i have no idea what im doing wrong. i feel like my studying hasn't changed, but my grades have.. so thats why im here, asking for advice on what i should do. any tips are appreciated.
P.S. I already have a math tutor i see 2x a week and she's really helpful
