Which boring business requires the least investment to get started?

A lot of people in this space want to own a boring business but get stuck on the same question: where do you actually start when you don't have much capital?

Some businesses look great on paper but require huge upfront money (self-storage, laundromats with real estate, HVAC fleets). Some look cheap but have hidden costs (insurance, licenses, equipment, vehicles). And some are genuinely accessible to a normal person with a few thousand dollars and some time on the weekends.

I want to use this thread to map out what's actually realistic for someone starting with limited capital.

Curious what people here think about a few angles:

Under 5K to start

What boring businesses can you realistically launch for less than 5K? Pressure washing, window cleaning, and lawn care get mentioned a lot. What else fits?

Under 10K to start

What opens up if you have a bit more to work with? Mobile car detailing, junk removal, handyman services?

Side-hustle friendly

What can you run on weekends or evenings while keeping a W2 to fund the growth?

Hidden costs people don't talk about

What looks cheap to start but ends up costing more once you factor in insurance, licensing, and slow months?

If you've started a boring business with limited capital, share what you actually spent and what you'd do differently.
