Back in 2020, many people from Kolkata and other big cities used the term “Tumpa” to mock people from Medinipur. They wanted to portray us as uncultured, but history tells a very different story. Some of Bengal’s most respected freedom fighters and influential leaders came from Medinipur.
Now it’s 2026, BJP has won West Bengal. The Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Dilip Ghosh, are both from Medinipur.
