So I remember having a water softener system in the house I lived in, and certainly remember carrying the 40 lbs bags down into the basement for my dad. I recently bought my first house and while my dad would have been super proud and happy to help, he’s not here anymore.

It has been 9 months since I moved in and I suddenly realized these things typically needed new salt every 1-3 months I race to Home Depot, buy a few bags, haul them downstairs and kick off the lid to the barrel and now have no idea what I’m looking at.

This thing looks half full still. Is that possible? Is it just turned off? I can’t even find an on switch of any kind. Help!
