It seems almost everyone across the spectrum agrees corporate money and lobbying is bad for our democracy. It's nice to find rare points of common ground across the political spectrum.

Maybe I've been living under a rock, but I had no idea that two political parties (LNP and ON, tbh I didn't look at Nationals) have what seems like a micro model of this embedded within their general membership structure.

My view is that this is sort of disqualifying for making claims to be a real populist or for the working class. But I'm also trying to be open minded, because I could be overlooking some really good reasons for this. I'd welcome people who endorse this model to explain the positives and their position. I'm genuinely curious.

For contrast, Labor and Greens have one single category of membership, with income-based costs (from $25 - $219 for Labor and $10 - 120 for Greens). But no matter what you pay, it's the same level of political engagement for all.

(I deleted the previous post to clear up conflation between pay-to-pay and pay-your-means).
