Hey all, I'm looking for a meaningful upgrade to my current headphones/audio setup. I have the M50Xs(primarily) and Sennheiser HD 25-1 IIs, which I connect directly to my desktop. Pretty happy with how they sound, but I'm looking for a meaningful/noticeable upgrade.

These would be for mixed use at my desktop. Like 33% watching movies/tv, 20% gaming, 47% music. Music is a real mix too, everything from pop to EDM to heavy metal.

I was thinking open back might be nice to try. I'm in a very quiet environment and I'll be keeping my current headphones.

After having a look around, I've been eyeing the Kithara and Edition XV. I use an arctis headset for its microphone, so I'd probably get a boom mic if I went with the Edition XV, since I hate the arctis build.

So here's some concrete questions:

  1. Is the kithara mic decent enough? I'd be happy if it was at least comparable to the arctis headsets. Would a boom mic be much better?

  2. My desktop has a B850 Gaming Plus (Realtek ALC897), would I need an amp for edition xv/kitharas? Worth getting a dac?

  3. Are there any other open backs in this price range that are worth considering?

I'm in Europe, and my budget is flexible but ideally around €500
