As much as I love Rebirth and The Bunker, I almost consider the first 3 three games to be the real trilogy of the series (hear me out)

First off, yes, this includes Justine. I feel like Justine is such an overlooked part of the franchise and deserves almost just as much attention as the rest of the games. Obviously it’s the shortest one, only being an expansion of The Dark Descent, but this is where I get into my main point of this post:

I wholly believe that this franchise deserves both remakes as well as film adaptions. And I think the best way to go about it would be to treat the first 3 games as a trilogy and leave the last 2 games just to stay as video games. Think about it this way: If they released remakes, The Dark Descent is more than deserving of it because of how influential that game has been on the internet and in the whole horror game space. If Justine got a remake, one with the length and story depth of any of the other games, then it could finally get the attention it deserves. A Machine for Pigs doesn’t deserve a remake so much as it NEEDS one. A remake of A Machine for Pigs could be amazing, and it could finally have it’s incredible story be accompanied by tense, horror gameplay that’s actually up to par.

As for adaptations on the big screen, if you say you don’t want that, or think it wouldn’t work, you’re genuinely just lying and should go watch Iron Lung to see how well that game was adapted to film despite having such a difficult premise and setting to work with. I think a trilogy of Amnesia films would be phenomenal. The first one, The Dark Descent, would ideally serve to be the scariest of the three. A great way to introduce newcomers to what this series is all about and how far it’s willing to go. Next, a Justine film (of course, with just as much runtime and plot as the other two). This would likely be the most gruesome one of the three, clearly being inspired by gory, psychological horrors, such as Saw. Finally, A Machine for Pigs. What better way to close out the anthology. This story, with it’s spectacle and it’s overall finality, would fit perfectly as the conclusion to the Amnesia series put to film.

Let me know your thoughts on all of this, but please have an open mind. I’ve had people tell me before that a remake and a movie would simply not work for how the story is displayed to the player and I fear they just don’t see the nuance of it. For film, I’m sure many horror directors would be more than interested in the challenge of adapting these stories in a faithful, well written and presented way that sits well with longtime fans as well as anyone who’s never even heard of, in my opinion, one of the greatest horror stories ever written.
