Hello! I am reluctantly in charge of figuring out what we need to make a remotely-accessible media/video storage system at my organization.
We currently have 40tb of videos scattered between a few different types of hard drives, and we need a unified storage solution that is remotely accessible so people (me) doing Premiere edits of the footage are able to work from wherever in the field (with internet) I find myself.
I think it's reasonable to aim for about 200tb total (with down-the road 5+years scalability possible). We have a server rack that exists in our facility already. I am not looking to incorporate this storage into that server itself, but I have rack space available.
What is your advice on the best NAS rack and drive solution to accomplish this task? Are there any components I will need that I havent thought about?
In the end, I want this to function as close to a regular external hard drive as possible, but one that is accessible over the internet and doesn't have to be physically plugged into my computer to access it.
Note: It will not have to read the video files at huge speeds, I will do the edits using proxies, but when creating the proxies or rendering out the final video, I will need to connect to the NAS remotely and have Premiere/Media Encoder be able to read the files for the transcoding/encoding.
