Hey guys. Might be specific to Australia but wanted to see if anyone has some insight or advice
I recently took my car to a local mechanics not a large dealer (in Melbourne) to get valve cover, oil pan gasket and engine mounts changed. It’s a 2008 BMW E60 530D on just over 305k km. Anyways went in, they advised me rest main seal, timing chain and transmission mounts need to be changed so I said yup go ahead and they did the work. Initially I was told the car would be in the shop for under a week but it ended up being over 4 weeks. J need a car for transport so I had to hire a car over this period that wasn’t cheap. I got my car back and noticed the whole vehicle vibrating over 1500rpm. Like shaking and it does this when I rev it in neutral. I had no issue even remotely like this before
I told the mechanic about it and they are claiming that the issue was there before but due to the blown engine mounts I couldn’t feel it. I’m not an idiot and told them this isn’t possible. The level of vibration it has I would’ve felt it prior. Anyways they said go home and if it still has issues let us know. Fast forward a month. The car is still shaking and I’ve been getting ghosted by the mechanic
Is there anything I can do to either a) force them to fix my car and cover a hire car for me as I don’t want to be out $200+ a week over their mistake b) get them to refund me on the repairs
From my research it seems like it’d be difficult since I can’t technically “prove” it wasn’t like this before and I’m so upset. I’ve spent so much on this car and just wanted it fixed and now Ive got a car that’s nearly undriveable
