2018 1.6L Turbo Elantra Sport DCT / Automatic 113k Miles
So i have been experiencing bad shifting over the course of a month or two. It started as just being a little finicky with it being cold by sometimes revving before shifting like raising RPMS. Usually if it was warmer outside the car would shift better. Well it got to the point where it just started constantly and I could tell it wouldn't catch in gears. It'll be in 5th gear and when I give it gas it wouldn't shift to 6th until a couple of seconds. Essentially it was acting like I was putting it in neutral and revving.
Initially they told me a price of $219 plus tax and that included a clutch relearn. Got to the place and they told me they had no clue what the person on the phone was talking about and clutch relearn is $175 and the flush / service was $315 including taxes.
I finally got enough funds and first did a transmission flush since dealer recommended it due to never being changed. Ended up getting the service done just today. The rep said the car was done, and told me the tech said he recommended new clutch packs. Apparently they even tried to do a relearn for me out of courtesy because of what they quoted me on the phone and also set the service price to $215 as well but apparently the service tablet they use to relearn the clutch packs wouldn't even let them do it because of how worn they were.
Got quoted $2.8k for new clutch packs including labor and what not. Left the dealership disappointed. As I was driving out, the car took absolutely forever to shift to second. The exhaust was popping like it was high in 1st and coasting. It was basically undrivable it kept revving nonstop on the highway when trying to shift. I attempted to switch to manual mode to shift myself and see if it helps, and it wouldnt even go into manual mode! I tried paddle shifters, no even gear selection option would popup. I even put the shifter into the manual + and - area and it didnt even do anything.
So i got down the road and pulled where I wouldn't be in the way. Waited for a family member because dealership is 50 min from home. During that time, they finally arrived and I decided to just try and drive it home since I had no choice due to being broke after the service and tow trucks get pricey. Tried to put it in reverse..... throttle wouldn't even work. It wouldn't move forward or backwards even with giving it throttle. Next thing you know, check engine light comes on. I turned the car off and back on and finally was able to get it home while its acting like a dog humping the air with shifting lol.
My big question, did the dealership do something wrong or did the fluid being changed unmask the clutch packs being worn? Although the car was pretty bad before the service, it was NOT that bad. Check engine light was NOT on before, as well as i had autozone check for codes as well before.
Also are the clutch pack quotes reasonable? They said it would take roughly 7 hours.
