Since HCE's have to put the $8,000 catch-up contribution into a Roth 401k this year, does it matter when that money hits the Roth account?
So here is my situation. I can contribute up to $32,500 this year which includes the catch-up amount. So far this year i have put $12,000 into my pre-tax 401k and $12,000 into my Roth 401k. Since I've already put over $8,000 into my Roth account, can I put the remaining $8,500 into my pre-tax 401k account?
My take is that it doesn't matter when the $8,000 catch-up pay hits your Roth account as long as your pre-tax 401k contributions don't exceed $24,500 at the end of the year. Am I wrong?
