I have an account in SIB, and I hadn’t used it for the past year. In January, my old friend sent some money to that account, and it was deducted immediately. When I checked the SIB app, the balance showed as zero. I contacted the bank to close the account, but they informed me that I needed to pay 5500 to close it. They also mentioned that there are penalties for not maintaining a minimum balance. Last month, when I checked with the bank, they told me that the amount had increased to around 6500. I raised a complaint internally, but they rejected it, stating that the penalties were valid. However, when I checked online, I discovered that these penalties cannot result in a negative bank balance. I also requested a detailed statement showing the -6500 balance, but they haven’t provided it. I have now filed a complaint with the ombudsman. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
