Help me rescue this little lovely

Rescued this from someone it was gifted to. It was in a window where it got no direct light and was often not watered or when it was watered it was overwatered. It is currently in a window where it gets direct evening light. I leave the top to dry before watering and leave it to drain from the bottom holes before putting it back in the pot. It does have some roots poking out the bottom holes. There was standing water in the bottom when I got it and the roots that had been sitting in that just… were slime. The potting soil I believe is just run of the mill garden soil feom whatever grocery store it came from. I know the current leaves won’t green up all the way again but I want to save it if I can.
