I’m planning a low-budget supernatural/horror short film and looking to shoot in and around Kollengode, hopefully this coming monsoon (I feel the atmosphere there is just perfect for it). I’ve previously made a couple of short films in other languages.

I'd really appreciate any help with:

* Local contacts for fields, old properties, mana/tharavad, aalmarams and dense trees, etc. (I'm looking for places which can be made to look like a kaavu. No plans to shoot in actual places of worship or hurt local sentiments),

* People open to collaborating(actors, crew, or even just guidance). Looking for people genuinely interested in committing to the process

* Any permissions or practical tips for shooting in that area, etc.

It’s a small, passion-driven project. I'm happy to credit and collaborate meaningfully.

If you’re from (or near) Kollengode or know someone who is, I'd love to connect. Please drop a comment or DM!

I fondly (some, not so fondly) remember the local folklores and stories from my parents' villages.

I remember something from my parents’ village that still creeps me out. There was this huge old well in our family property. Everyone believed a spirit lived in it, and it had to be “kept happy” with prayers every year.

As children, when we visited during summer vacation, when we had to pass by the well, we always walked at double the speed, not looking at it. We used to literally sing loudly while running past it because silence felt wrong. We hated it if we had to pass by it alone.

What made it worse? The toilet was outside the house, in the near vicinity of the well. So we refused to go out at night unless an adult accompanied us.

I don’t know if it was just fear or something else, but everyone in the family acted differently near the well.

What's a lesser-known/unknown folklore you grew up hearing in Kerala? May be from your house, family or village, especially the ones you or people around you actually believed or experienced.

Hi everyone,

I’m based in Hyderabad and have previously made 2 low-budget short films in other languages. I’m now developing a Malayalam supernatural horror short film and looking to collaborate with like-minded people who’d enjoy being part of an indie creative project.

Important Note:

This is a passion project/collaboration-based short film, not a paid commercial production. It would suit people who enjoy filmmaking, building portfolios, gaining experience, networking, and creating something meaningful together.

I’m especially looking for serious, dependable people who can commit to plans, communicate clearly, and stick to agreed dates and schedules.

About the Project:

Genre: Supernatural/Horror

Language: Malayalam

Planned Shoot time: August/September (monsoon season for ambience)

Budget: Low-budget independent project

Location: Kerala

Looking For Collaborators:

- Actors (Male and female, depending on roles)

- Cinematographer/camera collaborator

- Sound design/background score/music collaborators

- Editors/post-production support

- Kerala-based collaborators who can help locally

- Anyone passionate about horror and indie storytelling

Also Looking For Location Leads:

Places with a rustic, eerie, untouched feel such as:

- Old mana/tharavad-style houses/heritage homes

- Dense tree areas/banyan tree surroundings

- Natural spaces that can visually resemble a kaavu setting (Not looking to shoot in an actual religious place or hurt sentiments)

- Isolated rural spots with strong monsoon ambience

Open to locations anywhere in Kerala if the ambience suits the story.

About Me:

I’ve completed and released 2 previous short films, so I’m serious about taking this forward and seeing it through.

If Interested, please DM me with:

- How you'd like to collaborate

- Your location and whether you'd be open to traveling to Kerala for the shoot

- Any previous work/portfolio/links (if available)

- If you're new, just share your interest and how you'd like to be involved

Even if you're a beginner, feel free to reach out. Passion, reliability, and good energy go a long way.

Let’s create something eerie and memorable together!

Hi All,

I've made 2 low-budget short films earlier in other languages, and am now looking to make one in Malayalam.

The theme is supernatural, and it's being made on a low budget. I'm looking to collab with others to make the film. I'd like to plan shooting in monsoon for the ambience (So between August and September).

I'm developing the script and am looking for actors, cinematographer, and others who'd like to collab. I'd also like any leads on a mana/mana-like house, as well as a place that looks like or can be made to look like a kaavu for shooting (I don't want to hurt any religious sentiments and am not looking to shoot in an actual kaavu, just a place that can pass off as one, may be with aalmarams (banyan trees) and/or dense trees, etc.) I'm looking for a place that has an untouched, rustic, spooky ambience. Grateful for any leads!
