Soooo....I need to tell someone about this because I need to figure myself out
I have a medical provider that does not specialise in oncology but works with a lot of cancer patients and also works with an association that specialises in breast cancer.
Turns out said medical provider knows a coworker of mine.
I have worked with that coworker on three separate occasions, but now I have been promoted and will see them everyday.
Medical provider told the coworker that she/he knew me and I was their patient. The provider has not said breast cancer directly (as far as I am concerned) but from the context you can guess.
Many things are running through my mind:
- I really value my privacy and do not want everybody to know that I have cancer. Especially to people to which I have not consented.
- Work feels no more a "safe" place: I can no longer enjoy it without suspecting the people I work with know my medical records and that influences how I am treated and perceptions about myself
- Provider feels no more a "safe" place: No explanation needed
- I can no longer separate my job life and my medical life
- I just don't fit the more common ages for breast cancer, and that will arise more questions
- I just don't want my medical data out in the wild!!!
(Yes, I get the irony of posting this on reddit. It's a throaway account)
